FAQ's
Where can I buy Latisse®
Latisse® is only available through a qualified physician's office. Before you receive your prescription, you will require an initial consultation with the physician to make sure Latisse® is right for you.
How do you use it?
Latisse® is applied by first cleaning the eyelid, then applying a drop of Latisse® to a tiny applicator brush (provided), and then carefully drawing the applicator across the skin of the upper eyelid where the eyelashes meet the skin.
Can I use it on other areas, such as on my lower lashes or eyebrows?
Currently, Latisse® is only approved for use on the upper eyelashes.
How does it work?
Latisse® is believed to affect the growth cycle of hair in two ways: It increases the length the growth (anagen) phase and increases the number of hairs in the anagen phase.
How long does it need to take effect?
You will begin to see longer lashes in 4 weeks, with full effect in 16 weeks.
What happens if I stop using it?
If you stop using Latisse®, your lashes will gradually return to their original state.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects of using Latisse® are an itching sensation in the eyes and/or eye redness. These were reported in approximately 4% of patients. Other, less common side effects include skin darkening where Latisse® is applied, which resolves after discontinuation of use. Please read the product monograph for a complete list of side effects.
How long has it been in use?
Latisse® was first approved by the FDA for use in the United States in December 2008. However, it is derived from the drug bimatoprost, which has been used for years in eye drops to treat glaucoma. As a result, it's safety profile and side effects are well established.
Who makes it?
Latisse® is manufactured by Allergan, which you may recognize as the makers of your contact lenses and contact lens solutions. Allegan is a leader in the pharmaceutical industry, with over 60 years of eye-care expertise.
